Photo Gallery | Rumford Whitecap Hike

Mid-August appears to be the perfect time for a hike to the summit of Rumford Whitecap Mountain. It is a moderate hike -- 90 minutes to two hours to the summit, depending on your pace. The trail itself is somewhat uninspiring, but the views at the top (elevation 2,214 ft) are well worth it. We also found an abundance of blueberries on the summit.

Rumford Whitecap is easy to find. Take Route 5 to Andover Road to East Andover Road. The trailhead is well marked. A word to the wise -- skip the descent on the Yellow (Starr) trail. It  is not well marked and difficult to follow. You are better off retracing your steps down the Red/Pink/Orange trail. Other than that one flaw, the Mahoosuc Land Trust has done an admirable job preserving and maintaining this site.
