ATV accident in Dennistown

The Maine Warden Service is investigating an ATV accident which took place in Dennistown, in Somerset County, on Saturday June 25.

Joseph Higgins, age 24, and his father Adam Higgins of Norridgewock, were riding on an ATV trail, heading east from Route 201 on the Cross Town Road when Joseph Higgins came over a rise and failed to negotiate a sharp right hand turn.  The ATV rolled several times and Joseph Higgins was thrown from the machine.

Mr. Higgins was not wearing a helmet.

Speed was a contributing factor in the accident; it has been determined that no alcohol was involved.

Mr. Higgins was suffering from a head injury; was transported by ambulance to The Forks and then transported by LifeFlight to EMMC.  He suffered from a major concussion but no broken bones.  He since has been released from the hospital.

The investigation is being led by Maine Game Warden Glenn Annis.
