Fall Robotics Workshop Schedule is Set

STATEWIDE: Maine Robotics has announced it's fall workshop schedule for teachers, parents and coaches who want to get started with the LEGO(r) MindStorms Kit or who are interested in participating in the FIRST(tm) LEGO(r) League here in Maine.

The workshops are being held in 5 communities around Maine, including Falmouth, Auburn, Farmington, Bangor, and Farmingdale.  Participants will spend the day building and learning to program the LEGO(r) robots to do simple and intermediate tasks.  No previous experience or equipment is needed, all equipment is provided by Maine Robotics.

Maine Robotics is Maine's premier provider of robotics and engineering afterschool programs and works with over 1300 students and teachers each year in developing a higher degree of STEM literacy.  We welcome you to come participate at these workshops and join the hundreds of schools and thousands of children in Maine that have become engaged in science, engineering and technology

Cinderella Project Fundraiser with Victoria Greeley!

Victoria Greeley of Bangor, has teamed up with The Cinderella Project to help provide prom gowns to teens for FREE.  In past years, Victoria has hosted Tea Parties and weddings and other special events.  Over the years, she has accumulated many prom and wedding gowns, cocktail dresses, tuxes and accessories in all shapes, colors and sizes.  Victoria is now liquidating her private collection with a portion of the proceeds and prom gowns going to The Cinderella Project.  Last year... The Cinderella Project had 149 girls check in and 132 dresses were given away!

Honoring Innovation and Creativity Among the Nation’s Educators

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the ING Unsung Heroes Program that honors educators who have a significant impact on the lives of youth, but remain tremendously under-appreciated and unrecognized. One of the winning programs in the 2011 ING Unsung Heroes awards competition was submitted by Sharon Littlefield and Lori Stevens, educators at Warsaw Middle School in Pittsfield. They are going back to school with a $2,000 ING Unsung Heroes grant. By receiving the ING Unsung Heroes award Littlefield and Stevens are recognized as two of the nation’s most innovative educators.

July 13, 2011 - KENNEBUNK, ME.  As children and adults throughout Maine enjoy a well deserved summer vacation, the United Way of York County and several community partners are thinking ahead to make sure that children enter the new school year ready to learn, equipped with the tools they need to succeed, by joining a statewide effort to provide donated items such as backpacks, calculators, pens, pencils, rulers and composition notebooks to children unable to afford them. 

“One of our primary goals at United Way is to create and support efforts that help children and youth meet academic milestones and graduate on time,” says Kathryn Davis, President and CEO of United Way of York County.
