Caring for Someone with Dementia or Alzheimer’s?

Are you taking care of a family member or friend with dementia?  Looking for some strategies to help manage your loved one’s behaviors and keep him or her content at home?  Could you use more information to help improve upon your care giving skills and attitude?  If so, Spectrum Generations Family Caregiver Support Program is providing a six week Maine Savvy Caregiver training this summer at Redington Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan.

Based on the idea that family members often take on caregiving without preparation or training, participants learn what dementia is and how it affects the individual and develop skills on how to interact and communicate with a person with dementia.  Caregivers will also find out where to go for resources and services to help support themselves, as well as the person with dementia.

SVH Celebrates Completion of Two Year Capital Campaign

SVH Celebrates Completion of Two Year Capital Campaign

On June 5th, Sebasticook Valley Health (SVH) celebrated the completion of its two year capital campaign, “It’s the Right Thing to Do,” with a finale celebration at the Palmyra Golf Course. Over seventy-five capital campaign donors attended this event, which recognized the many people who made possible the hospital expansion and fundraising efforts.

SVH CEO/EMHS Senior Vice President Terri Vieira remarked, “Can you believe it? Two years ago, we broke ground on the new inpatient wing, and today, we’re wrapping up one of the most ambitious capital campaigns in the hospital’s fifty-year history.” Terri described many notable achievements since opening the new wing in 2013, from enabling parents to stay with their children during inpatient stays, to swing bed admissions tripling since the new wing opened last year.
