Unity College Chosen for Carnegie Foundation 2010 Community Engagement Classification

Unity, Maine – January 10, 2011 –  The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has selected Unity College for its 2010 Community Engagement Classification.  Unity College was among only two institutions of higher learning in Maine that were among the 112 U.S. colleges and universities named to the list.
     “This national recognition on behalf of the Carnegie Foundation is a testimony to the exemplary service orientation of Unity’s culture, and reinforces the importance of the college’s commitment to working with communities to collaboratively address the issues of the day,” noted Jennifer Olin, Community-Based Learning Coordinator at Unity College.

Kelly Liberty Joins Spectrum Generations Bridges Home Care Division

SPECTRUM GENERATONS is pleased to introduce Kelly Liberty as the newest member of its Bridges Home Care Division.  As a Care Manager, Liberty’s responsibilities include assisting Veteran’s with a revolutionary healthcare program called VIP (Veteran’s Independence Program,) which focuses on helping Veterans get the support they need to stay in their homes.  

VIP is a self-directed healthcare program through the Veteran’s Administration in partnership with Spectrum Generations expertise on available services in the Veteran’s community.  The intention is to maintain a person’s lifestyle at home and in their community rather than relying heavily on nursing facility care.

Liberty is a Licensed Social Worker with a degree in psychology from Simmons College in Boston. Her previous experience working with mentally ill adults for Catholic Charities and as a social worker in the Anson and Madison schools lends itself well to this position.

The Maine Real Estate & Development Association (MEREDA) Annual Forecast Conference, which each year attracts more than 500 attendees from around the state, will be held this year on Thursday, January 27, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn By the Bay, 88 Spring Street, Portland, ME.

“The Forecast Conference has grown to become the most important gathering of the year for all the key players in Maine’s commercial real industry,” said Tom Lea, MEREDA President, and Senior Vice President and Group Manager of Commercial Real Estate at Peoples United Bank. “The conference provides a unique opportunity to take stock of the economy and gain insights into where our industry is headed in the months ahead.

The 2011 Ride-in features fun-filled events throughout the weekend. All events are held at the Newport Armory, formerly known as the Sebasticook Valley Community Center, unless otherwise noted. The Armory is located at 81 North Street in Newport.

Friday, February 4
4:00 pm: Snowmobile club registration opens

6:30 pm: Start of the Hayes Law Office annual Ride-in Auction featuring a wide variety of merchandise, plan to join us for some fun and fast-paced bidding. Items will be on display for viewing starting at 5:30pm. Food and refreshments will be available. Silent auction winners will be announced during auction (exact time tbd).

Saturday, February 5
7:00 am: "All You Can Eat Breakfast Buffet" at Hungry Hollow '76ers Snowmobile Club, Horseback Road, Levant (off ITS 84). Menu includes ham, eggs, pancakes, home fries, Texas toast, doughnuts, fruit, coffee, milk and juice.
